The state of Florida is suing two South Florida firms that promised to keep homeowners facing foreclosure in their homes.
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Thursday that her office has filed a lawsuit against MGD Management and CRS Marketing. The suit accuses the pair of misleading customers into thinking they could stay in their homes for years while paying nothing on their mortgage, taxes, insurance or homeowner association fees.
The companies, both owned by Mark Dalen, charged anywhere from $1,500 to $2,500 along with $300 a month. Some of the fees were collected upfront, which Jenn Meale, a spokeswoman for Bondi’s office, said is illegal.
The suit included ads by the companies promising, among other things: “Stay in your home free for years! Legally!”
The ads also said that all attorneys fees were included, but Meale said the companies provided no legal services.
At least 300 homeowners had done business with the companies, she said.
